Froggymouth® Size L (For elderly)

The Froggymouth device is available in 3 sizes (Small-S, Medium-M, and Large-L).

The L size is referred to as the "large mouth size." It is suitable for a small percentage of adult males, with only 10% of European men falling into this category.

The rule is as follows: in the horizontal plane, Froggymouth should be slightly smaller than the size of the patient's mouth. Why?

The action of Froggymouth is to inhibit the movement of the facial nerve, which stimulates the lip muscles, and thus prevent the contraction of the muscles of the lips, chin, and cheeks during swallowing.

Inhibiting the facial nerve will promote the action of its antagonist, the trigeminal nerve. This nerve controls the respiratory centers in the pontine tegmentum through its sensory nucleus, thereby encouraging the restoration of nasal breathing.

In the vertical plane, there are no restrictions: vertical opening does not vary based on the size of the Froggymouth device but corresponds to the physiological opening of the mouth.

Therefore, in case of doubt between two sizes, we will always recommend the smaller one. This will avoid stretching the corner of the mouth and stimulating the facial nerve.
