Author of the book Challenging Nature

Director of the Paulo Kano Education Center andPrivate practice in São Paulo, Brazil since 1988

Paulo Kano is the founder of Paulo Kano EducationCenter, a dental institute located in São Paulo, Brazil.

He’s started his career lecturing about sculpture and occlusion (1990-2007) and as a result of this work, he has published a book called Challenging Nature with worldwide editions. For over 15 years he has taught restorative dentistry at  his  institute and  as visiting Professor of the Graduate School in the Restorative Dentistry Department of  the  Federal University of Santa Catarina (UFSC) and at Paulista Association of Dental Surgeons (Associação Paulista de  Cirurgiões Dentistas - APCD). He has also taught full mouth rehabilitation in a clinical hands-on course for 3 years. During the last 20 years, he has been developing techniques to achieve excellence in aesthetic dentistry by copping the naturalness of the teeth. In 2005 he started courses about aesthetic dentistry. In  2010, to  enhance the workflow and make it more simple, predictable and  with high quality, he started using the most advanced dental technologies applied to aesthetics. Nowadays, his courses are based on the Cllones method, which is a concept that enables to recreate the dental morphology with naturalness and predictability, cloning the natural teeth morphologies, using virtual tooth libraries and physical anatomy. Heteaches about mockups, photo, video, digital planning, flapless surgery, dental preparation, scanning, staining, bonding, occlusal adjustment, dental implants, and oral  rehabilitation. All to give the patient a personalized aesthetic. He is the president of the Brazilian Society of Digital Dentistry (SBODigital), in which he has been leading to improve the technological and scientific advancements so that more dentists are able to use quality equipment and materials every day and give their patients excellent treatments. Dr. Paulo Kano has graduated from  the University of Santo Amaro in 1988 and holds a master's degree inImplantology from the Sao Leopoldo Mandic University. He is also certified as a dental technician by the Sao Paulo Department of Education since 1982. During his professional years, he has published national and international articles, translated into several languages. He has participated as co-author of the book Odontologia Estética (“Aesthetic Dentistry”) and was a collaborator of the book Odontologia Restauradora (Restorative Dentistry) – Fundamentals and Possibilities both with Professor Luiz Narciso Baratieri. Dr. Paulo Kano keeps increasing his techniques doing researches and learning with each new technology that is introduced every year. He shares his knowledge with passion because he believes that every dentist should be able to achieve greatness in quality and aesthetics.

Is a concept that involves techniques that make possible to recreate the dental morphology with naturalness and predictability.

This innovative workflow is a set of protocols developed by Dr. Paulo Kano. It includesmockups, photo, video, digital planning, flapless surgery, dental preparation, scanning, staining, cementation, occlusion adjustment and dental implant.

It results in a personalized aesthetic, according to thepatient's choices.

Cllones revolutionizes the way to make dental restorations, achieving excellence in function, physiology, aesthetics and can be used in several indicationsof oral rehabilitation.

The use of digital resources in the aesthetic restorations has as main objective to increasethe predictability of the treatment, while it makes possible thesimulation and planning of the clinical case, providing an early visualization of the final restoration, sincethe beginning of the treatment.

For this it is necessary to introduce some information andreferences so that the software can start the layers integration, allowing the three-dimensional anddigital capture of the patient. Among the documents used are frontal and digitized photography or3D scanning of the face, scanned images of the upper and lower arches with a bite registration, colorsselection acquired during intraoral scanning (from the spectrophotometer of the machine), CBCT, digital libraries of    natural teeth andimplant components.

The acquisition of these data allows to create a moreadequate planning, as it takes into account the interaction of all craniofacial structures, making thesimulation more truthful and multidisciplinary.

Aesthetic restorations on anterior teeth often require crownlengthening surgeries, gingival contour or grafts. The use of digital systems allows guided surgeriesthat facilitate the surgical process, decrease the clinical time and favor dental preparation. Making theprocedures more precise, as they use bone levels, the patient's face and the shape of the lips asreference.

Currently, digital solutions are easily accessible resources, which do not require major investments to the dentist, as they can be outsourced. However, theclinical reasoning for a digital universe leads us to a complete change of paradigms and concepts.
